For I Have Sinned A Charley Davidson Story A HeroesandHeartbreakerscom Original edition by Darynda Jones Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
This is a very short Charley Davidson story which stands alone well. I have had this forever to read and just finally got around to reading it. Most of this book on Kindle is dedicated to a preview of the first Charley Davidson story; the actually story in here is a very quick read (maybe took me 10 - 15 minutes to read). The story is told from the perspective of a ghost that doesn’t know how she died but suspects she committed suicide. Her and Charley work to track down her story and help her find rest.
This was a very sweet and touching story. I enjoyed seeing Charley from a ghost’s perspective. I also enjoyed seeing what the ghost thought about how Charley and Reyes interacted together.
Overall this is a sweet and touching quick short story. I would recommend if you are a fan of Charley Davidson, but don’t expect a ton of content here.

For I Have Sinned A Charley Davidson Story A HeroesandHeartbreakerscom Original edition by Darynda Jones Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I've either read or listened to Darynda Jones's "Charlie Davidson" series, and have truly enjoyed it. She's a fine writer. However...
This piece is supposed to be a prequel to the series, from Charlie's perspective. I've already and enjoyed Reyes's prequel.
It looks like most of the book *was missing* from this edition, so I can't give it the five-star rating I would normally give.
I'm hoping it is a technical glitch in this particular digital book. If that's the case, I'll change my 2-star rating. That rating reflects my frustration.
What I saw was the start of the prequel, a couple of pages of it. I then saw sample first chapters of two early books in the series. I went back to confirm that I'd seen all the material. I had, based on the page numbers.
I hope someone responds to me on this.
Charley Davidson is one of my all time favorite good guys. Heroine. KICKASS reaper. Smartass. Take your pick.
What makes her so special? That would be author-god Darynda Jones. Writer with no mercy but buckets full of magic, DJ can tell a story that stills any qualms. Her Grave series is dark chocolate, mocha latte and the best, freshest home made cheesecake possible.
Not enough can be said for the talent that spills across the pages that brings Charley and Reyes to steamy passion. No, I mean to passionate life.....Eh, let's go with either!
I cried? Yep. Any of Charley's escapades are fraught with emotions, and being deaths kaleidoscope can bring on some hormone crazies.
Read! Breathe! Become a fanatic!
So, yes, I'm unashamedly still on the Darynda Jones high. I was about to dive into Book 2 when I happened upon her website and found this novella tagged #1.5, For I Have Sinned. Imagine if I'd read out of order?! Ummm, no...no one needs to see me that deranged. HA! In truth, I'd have kicked my own butt for missing out on this beaut. I wonder, though Why this short story before Second Grave on the Right? What HAD to be said quickly and not fleshed out in a full length or even incorporated into...Oh. I see derangement is my usual process. On to the sin...
This poor woman doesn't know who she is or how she died, but she gravitated toward Charley for help. The goal for Charley is to help her cross over, part and parcel of being the grim reaper, but this woman is confused and needs help remembering the details of her death before leaving earth.
"Is it normal for people to forget who they are after they, you know, pass?"
She shrugged while stirring her coffee. "Doesn't happen often, but it does happen. Especially if the death was particularly traumatic."
A story of courage, of heartbreak, when success happens without you. Knot-in-my-throat kind of sad. Hand-over-heart kind of joy.
Perhaps it was the POV of the character, Jo, instead of Charley that Ms. Jones considered the format? Since I've yet to embark on book #2, my hypothesis is yet unproven. Truth is, it doesn't really matter Darynda Jones captures moments. When Charley's able to pass on a message from the departed to the suffering, she bowls me over. Charley finds a way to ease the burden of "unfinished business"; a key word or sentiment because she knows it can make a world of difference.
For I Have Sinned is a small treasure (this short story plus excerpts from books 1 and 2). What I enjoyed most was being a spectator of Charley's life.
Maybe she was an angel, I thought as she crawled out of bed and headed for the door. Maybe she was stuck on earth, sent here to help those who had passed. What a noble creature.
She is sassy, but dedicated to her role, and it's appreciated. A few scenes involving the enigmatic Reyes gave us insight and showed us a vulnerable side of their relationship. Complex as it may be, a woman needs to hear from her man! D Something tells me these two will keep each other on their toes.
For I have Sinned is a short tale of one spirit that needs Charley's help. It is a very quick read that takes place after First Grave on the Right and before Second Grave on the Left. We are seeing Charley through the point of view a recently departed young lady. This new view of Charley and Reyes is a real eye opener for me as a reader because all the books in the series are from Charley's point of view. I love the descriptive narration, and also how we experience the confusion that spirits really go through and how they see us.
Jo Ann Montgomery has recently passed, and she finds herself drawn to a beautiful light that emanates from one Charley Davidson, a grim reaper. Jo doesn't know what Charley is, but feels like she can be the source of knowledge for her. Most of the time Charley comes across nonchalant about spirits that appear to her, but she does really care and knows just the right thing to say to them. As she helps Jo piece together what has happened to her they uncover such a sad truth, but a truth that brings us closer to the real Charley. This was a sad and bitter sweet story, but one that will surely give you a better appreciation for the grim reaper we know as Charley Davidson.
